I grew up in La Paz, Bolivia. Because of my interest in natural sciences I decided to study Chemistry at the University of Zurich, where I obtained a degree in Organic Chemistry. The aim of my Diploma Thesis was the synthesis of phenylalanine derivatives and their use in the synthesis of cyclic peptides. After my studies I have worked in the pharmaceutical industry in Switzerland at the companies Arena Pharmaceuticals GmbH and Haenseler AG. I had the opportunity to participate in projects in the field of analytical chemistry. Moreover, I have a strong interest in ecology, biodiversity, socio-economic issues and conservation of medicinal plants in its biocultural perspective.
Why did you want to become part of MedPlant?
Because my research interests are medicinal plants and natural products, focusing on their application to neglected diseases.
What do you hope to achieve as part of MedPlant?
Acquire knowledge and skills in the research of medicinal plants.
What do you hope to do after MedPlant?
Work as a researcher and establish a collaboration with local Bolivian universities and institutions.
